Putting The Casa Carrillo Deep Blue To The Test
Tasting notes
The opening draws are driven heavily by the Nicaraguan Jalapa wrapper leaf. It delivers a smooth, gentle, and aromatic introduction that does not initially give away the heavier flavors hidden further down the barrel. Refined natural sweetness, cedar wood, toasted nuts, and faint baking spice.
The flavor profile explicitly tightens up as the sweetness begins to fade. It transitions into richer notes of roasted coffee beans, a sturdier woody presence, and a more defined pepper element.
Heavy dark chocolate, rich espresso, thick dark earth, leather, and a very bold finish of black pepper.
Burn: excellent
Draw: It delivers a smooth, highly consistent draw with just a slight, pleasant resistance. It is not overly loose or airy.
Construction: A silky, oily Nicaraguan Habano leaf grown in the Jalapa valley by Nestor Plasencia. It features a dark, Colorado Oscuro shade with exceptionally fine veining and seamlessly applied seams.
